  1. National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Braille Enrichment for Literacy and Learning (BELL) Academy of Iowa (new in 2016).
  2. Blindness Awareness month activities, such as teaching sessions in local schools, attendance at civic organization meetings and other community events, and newspaper articles.
  3. Expenses to allow our members to participate in Washington Seminar. An event each year that allows NFBI members to travel to Washington DC to speak with members of congress regarding laws that effect blind people.
  4. Coordination with the NFB to offer resources to blind adults and to blind children and their families.
  5. Contributions to Scholarships offered to blind students both in Iowa and nationally.

The National Federation of the Blind distributes many different magazines, newspapers, newsletters, speeches, reports, books, and other pieces of literature to inform the public (blind and sighted) about the true nature of blindness and about issues of interest to the blind.

The Student Slate

The Student Slate is the newsletter of the National Association of Blind Students, (NABS.) It is written by blind students for blind students of all ages and is packed with information to assist readers with issues related to their current course of study and to help them plan for future career successes. It contains articles about what it takes to be a successful blind student and how to plan, organize,and undertake one's chosen course of study.

The Braille Monitor

The Braille Monitor is the leading publication of the NFB, this magazine is published eleven times a year and covers blindness-related events, activities, and issues.

Voice of the Nation's Blind

The Voice of the Nation's Blind is an online forum to inform members and others about current issues being addressed by the National Federation of the Blind and what can be done to help.

Future Reflections

Future Reflections is a quarterly magazine (published by the National Organization of Parents of Blind Children) offers parents and teachers a multitude of resources and information based on the positive NFB philosophy.

Voice of the Diabetic

The Voice of the Diabetic is a quarterly newspaper (published by the Diabetes Action Network) offers information and inspiration for diabetics, health professionals, and all those touched by the condition.

Kernel Books

Kernel Books is an influential series of booklets is made up of inspirational stories written by blind people about themselves.

Speeches and Reports

Discover key NFB speeches delivered by our esteemed leaders Jacobus tenBroek, Kenneth Jernigan, and Marc Maurer. Included in this section are national convention banquet speeches, presidential reports, resolutions, and President Maurer’s presidential releases.
